How to Post a Message on Investor Village Boards

How to Post a Message on an Investor Village Message Board

📝Learn how to post a new message on any board, choose your preferred editor, and customize your post with categories, sentiment, and formatting.

🧭 Step 1: Choose Your Editor – Rich Text or Plain Text

Investor Village offers two types of message editors:

  • Rich Text Editor (RTE): Includes formatting tools (bold, italics, hyperlinks, attachments, etc.)

  • Plain Text Editor: Simple, text-only input (no formatting tools)

🔁 How to Switch Between Editors

There are two ways to toggle between editors:

🔹 Option 1: On-the-Fly While Composing

  • Look to the right of the message composition box

  • You’ll see:
“Your current editor is: [X Editor]”
    “Change to: [Y Editor]”

  • Click to switch instantly

🔹 Option 2: Change Your Default in Settings

  1. Click on your Settings page

  2. Locate the “Rich Text Editor” toggle

  3. Select “On” or “Off” to choose Rich Text or Plain Text as your default

📱 Note: On mobile devices, the Rich Text Editor is automatically disabled due to compatibility limitations. All mobile users are switched to Plain Text Editor to ensure they can still post.

✍️ Step 2: Start a New Post

  1. Navigate to the board where you want to post

  2. Click the “Post” button located in the board header

  3. A new page will open with a large message composition area

✅ Compose Your Message

You must complete the following fields:

  • Subject Line: This becomes the title of your message

  • Message Body: Enter your full message here

🧰 If Using the Rich Text Editor (Desktop Only):

You’ll see a 3-row toolbar with icons to:

  • Bold or italicize text

  • Insert hyperlinks or images

  • Upload files (Investor Village supports a variety of file types and sizes)

🗂️ Optional Post Settings

You can also customize your message by selecting:

  • Category:

    • GN – General (default)

    • OT – Off Topic

  • Sentiment:

    • Choose from options like Strong Buy, Buy, Hold, Sell, Strong Sell

    • Available on stock-specific boards to reflect your view of the security

🛠️ Step 3: Edit or Delete Your Post Later

After posting, you can:

  • Edit your message by clicking the Edit link (visible on your own posts)

  • Delete the message if needed, as long as it hasn’t been locked or responded to in certain cases
